Gantry Plaza State Park is a hidden gem in Queens, New York. It is a quick walk from the Moma PS1 art museum and has some of the most beautiful views of the Manhattan skyline. This park features a waterfront, two playgrounds and two baseball fields, one with lights for night play.
The park is a public park in Long Island City, Queens. It’s located right next to the East River and it has a great view of Manhattan.
This is an excellent place to come with your family and friends, especially if you’re looking for a relaxing day out. There are plenty of benches to sit on and enjoy the view, as well as playgrounds for kids.
The park also has an amazing history behind it – it was built in the 1930s by John A. Roebling’s Sons Company as a site for manufacturing steel wire rope for suspension bridges. Gantry Park has a long history dating back to 1875 when it was known as Gantry Plaza State Dock. The dock was used for loading and unloading cargo from ships that docked at what was then known as Long Island City’s waterfront.
Gantry Park offers a pleasant waterfront walk along the East River with views of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queensboro Bridge, Roosevelt Island and other landmarks. There are plenty of benches for resting or people watching and an open lawn for picnics or games like bocce ball.
The park also features a giant neon Pepsi sign that was originally installed on top of Gantry’s Warehouse in Long Island City back in 1936 as an advertisement for Pepsi Cola.

- Continue on I-495 E/Long Island Expy. Drive to Meridian Rd. Take exit 9P from Grand Central Pkwy
- Merge onto I-495 E/Long Island Expy
- Use the right lane to take exit 22A-E for I-678
- Keep right at the fork to continue on Exit 22B, follow signs for Grand Central Pkwy and merge onto Grand Central Pkwy
- Take exit 9P toward Flushing Meadows Corona Park/BJK Tennis Center
